Pandora: The World of Avatar in Animal Kingdom is the most highly anticipated opening of the year at Disney World. The excitement has been building for months!
A few weeks ago Annual Passholders got emails inviting them to sign up to preview the new land! Thankfully my mom was so excited as soon as she got the email she signed us all up because spaces filled up very fast!
Daily expeditions will not begin until May 27th, but we went this past weekend. Gray skies meant that we were probably in for a down pour while viewing the land, but we did not care, and it did not deter us!
This land is unlike any other area in Disney World. Once in Pandora you feel like you have left Disney World behind, and you are truly a part of Pandora.
Pandora has two rides: Na’vi River Journey and Avatar Flight of Passage.
Na’vi River Journey takes you into the rainforest to seek out the Na’vi Shaman of Songs. It is a very beautiful and gentle ride that is great for all ages.
Avatar Flight of Passage is the attraction everyone seems to be talking about-it is a 3D ride that has guests flying on the back of a banshee. It is great they did previews of the land and attractions because this one has some kinks-the day we went there was over an hour wait. We were given fastpasses for 3:15-3:30. We did not get on the ride until 4:40. However we were glad we waited because it is truly an amazing, immersive experience unlike any other ride I have been on. I am very prone to motion sickness, and did feel a little queasy towards the end, but overall had no issue with riding it.
When I say Pandora is an immersive experience that really has you believing you have left Disney World the gift shop gives a clue to why this is-you see nothing of Disney-no autograph books, no stuffed Mickeys, only items having to do with the World of Avatar.
I predict the banshees will be one of the most popular items. My daughter “adopted” one for the price of 50 dollars!
I was very tempted to bring home a floating mountain mug since it definitely met my requirement-it can hold a lot of coffee. But I passed since we were coming home with a banshee.
After all that experiencing attractions, and then shopping it was time for a bite to eat. Satu’li Canteen is where you will find an assortment of delicious and unique offerings:
The entree which was actually a cheeseburger and the dessert which was a unique blueberry cheesecake were good, but what was truly my favorite was found at Pongu, Pongu-a beverage stand:
It is the Pongu Pongu Night Blossom. So very awesome. And will definitely be my go to on those hot summer days!
I am excited for Pandora to officially open, and to be able to go back! Even with a longer than expected wait on Flight of Passage and a few downpours we still had an amazing time and were all smiles as we headed out!
