Last night it was Wishes final farewell. Wishes has been the fireworks entertainment at Magic Kingdom since its debut on October 9th, 2003.
I LOVE Wishes, and I am so very sad it will be leaving. The start of it with:
Star Light, Star Bright/First Star I see Tonight
takes me back to my childhood when as a child we would always say that when we saw the first star appear in the sky.
Unfortunately my daughter who is 9 is not as taken with experiencing Wishes as I am. It’s not Wishes she doesn’t like, she just has no patience for parades and/or fireworks. Once in a while I can get her to stay and experience them, but not often. I on the other hand would be happy to stay and watch whenever I find myself in the park and Wishes would be happening.
A couple of weeks ago good friends of mine were visiting Disney and we were in Magic Kingdom for Wishes. This was perfect timing. We found a spot that was off to the side so good view, but not crazy crowded. And from there we watched what would be our last time experiencing Wishes.
I know change while it can be scary is good. And I am sure the new fireworks display that is debuting tonight-Happily Ever After will be wonderful. I mean how can it not be? And I will always have amazing memories of experiencing Wishes.
I have seen is while standing on Main Street. I have seen it while on a boat in the middle of Seven Seas Lagoon. I have been dining at California Grill and Narcoossee when Wishes has gone on. And maybe the most amazing memory I have of Wishes is celebrating Julia’s 8th birthday. We stayed at Disney’s Contemporary Resort. I had booked a standard view and they pixie dusted us by upgrading our room to a theme park view. Julia’s birthday is in January, and Florida can be really cold during that time. That weekend the temperature dropped to 30 degrees. Even if Julia has been a huge fan of Wishes there is no way she would have wanted to be out in the cold watching it. We watched and listened from the comfort of our room while we sipped hot chocolate and ate chocolate chip cookies!
I do have a souvenir that will remind me of Wishes year after year. Last weekend while at Magic Kingdom I purchased the limited edition annual pass holder Wishes ornament.
Make a wish!
(Wishes!) Dream a dream!
(Wishes!) Cross your heart!
And your wish…will…come…true!
