First stop after Expo was checking into our home away from home-Polynesian Village Resort. We stayed there last year, and there was no question we wanted to stay here again. We stay in one of the Villa rooms which is awesome-a split bathroom. One has a shower, toilet and sink, and the other has a shower and sink. When you are 3 women staying in a room together-2 showers is a huge bonus!
Plus you can walk to the Ticket and Transportation Center so you can take the monorail to Magic Kingdom or to Epcot without having it transfer! That is awesome for just regular trips to Epcot, but especially when you need to leave at 3:30 AM to get to your race!
After Expo and then checking in to the resort we pretty much still had the whole afternoon and evening.
We headed to Animal Kingdom because Rivers of Light had just opened. It is a night time show with amazing water displays, music and other special effects.
We had a lovely afternoon complete with a ride on Expedition Everest and the Safari!
We had booked fastpasses for Rivers of Light, but we still needed to arrive about 45 minutes before. It was a really pretty attraction, but not sure it was worth basically having to sit and wait 45 minutes prior to the start.
We were back at the room by 8:15 PM, and I think we were all asleep by 9:00 PM.
We had a full day planned for Friday. We had no races so we could “sleep in.” This meant about 7:00 AM. Why spend time sleeping when there is so much fun activities to do!
First stop was breakfast at 1900 Park Fare over at the Grand Floridian. It is a buffet with characters. My friend Jenn and I have one sole purpose to dining at 1900 Park Fare-The Mad Hatter. We LOVE him!
We were off to Hollywood Studios to see some of Jenn’s “friends!” Moana and her Star War pals were waiting for a visit!
We also were able to get some fun Magic Shots!
We did head back to the resort by noon so we could relax by the pool. I mean-we had to rest at some point-we would be running 19.3 miles over 2 days!
By early evening we were headed to Magic Kingdom for a private party that was exclusive to Disney Vacation Club members and their guests! While it was really fun-we left by 10:30 PM. We had to go to sleep-the 10k was the next morning-5:30 AM-which meant a 3 AM wakeup.
That is a great picture right? Don’t ask how many takes we had to do to get it right. But it was worth it.
Before we called it a night we did get a fun picture with Bowler Hat Guy from Meet the Robinsons. Jenn was beside herself that neither Josette nor I knew the character or had seen the movie. I promise it is on my To Do List! And I think we all got into the spirit of the character and picture!
Question: When participating in a Disney race do you rest the day before or play in the parks?
