My last post under Princess Training Tales was……March 2014-um that will not happen again.
It is now 2016-since that time I have run in a number of runDisney races, plus some other non Disney races.
Between March 2014 to the end of 2015 I kind of did the same thing. I would train but did nothing to push myself.
I knew I needed to make some changes to improve my running. I joined Weight Watchers because I knew losing weight would help with my running.
My weight was down 12 pounds but my pace was no faster. Plus I had not been following a training plan for the half marathon I had coming up on January 31st, 2016 or the Glass Slipper Challenge-mid February 2016.
I told my two best friends who I do Glass Slipper Challenge with that I was thinking about deferring Glass Slipper Challenge. I wasn’t trained, my pace was terrible and I was afraid I would be swept. In February 2013 I was swept during Princess Half Marathon when I fell behind the required pace.
They both told me I couldn’t do that. They told me I could do it, but it was going to take a lot of effort but they knew I could do it. I decided to give it a try-the worst that happened was I wouldn’t be able to pull it off. But if I didn’t seriously put the effort in, I would never know.
Three times a week I would get up during the week and go to the gym, and work on my pace. On the weekends I would run outside and track my pace. Even when I went on a cruise mid January I headed to the gym in the early am to keep on my training schedule!
January 31st, 2016: Celebration Half Marathon
I was so nervous. This would be my “test” to see if I could keep to a 16 minute mile pace which is what is required for the runDisney races. I wanted to back out, but again not knowing wasn’t going to help.
I finished in 3:29:44. I was very happy because that time was even with a stop in an actual house to use the bathroom, and a fall between Mile 6 and 7.
I had the confidence I needed to take on Glass Slipper Challenge!
February 2016: Glass Slipper Challenge
All three medals were earned! The 10k, the 1/2 Marathon and the challenge medal. Also in the picture is an Alex and Ani Bracelet. My two friends and I all pick a Disney Alex and Ani bracelet prior to the race weekend, and then take them out to wear them once the races are over.
This weekend is a big race weekend in Disney!
It’s Disney World’s Star Wars Half Marathon: The Dark Side.
I will be participating in The Dark Side Challenge. The Dark Side Challenge consists of a 10k on Saturday and a half marathon on Sunday. If both races are completed in addition to the 10k medal and the half marathon medal there will also be a challenge medal.
The course for both the 10k and the half marathon look great, and I am looking forward to taking on the dark side to earn 3 medals.
Question: Will you be participating in runDisney’s Half Marathon: The Dark Side?
