Princess Half Marathon 2013 was the start of my runDisney addiction. Even though I was swept-meaning my pace was too slow so I could not finish-it was still an amazing experience.
I made it 8 miles, had a blast, and made some great friends.
When registration was coming up for Princess Half Marathon 2014 I knew I was going to register. RunDisney had upped the stakes. They created the Glass Slipper Challenge. They added an inaugural 10k called the Enchanted. For runners who signed up for the Glass Slipper Challenge, and ran the 10k and the 1/2 they would get a medal for each race, and then a bonus medal. Besides the 10k and the 1/2 runDisney also offered a Cinderella Royal Family 5k-so runners could earn up to 4 medals!
Thursday-Feb. 20th, 2014
Princess Half Marathon is the perfect time of the year-it falls right around my birthday. I celebrated my birthday Feb. 19th with my family, and then the following day I was ready to kick off the most exciting race weekend of the year.
The year before when I did Princess Half Marathon I knew no one. This year was completely different. Through Princess Half Marathon 2013 I had found a great online running group. These are women I “talk” with daily though Facebook if not on the phone, or even seeing in person.
Port Orleans Riverside
To enhance the experience of the Glass Slipper Challenge this year I was staying on Disney property with two friends at Port Orleans Riverside. We checked in.
I have to say-I just love the Disney touches in the Disney resorts-I never get tired of seeing a Mickey created out of towels!
Headed to Expo!
When you stay on Disney property during a runDisney weekend transportation to Expo is easy. Expo is where runners pick up their Bibs. They also have vendors: many, many vendors, where anything you could possible need is for sale. And many things you may not exactly need, but you will definitely want!
The above items are from the official runDisney merchandise. I always get a magnet for my car. And because Julia was coming to watch me for the 1/2 I thought she would like the t-shirt.
Because this was my birthday week, and I was about to participate in the biggest race weekend of my life I ended up making an extra special purchase!
Dooney & Bourke had released a limited edition PHM 2014 pattern. Runners could pre-order, however I had chosen not to. One of my friends was picking up her pre-ordered bag. They still had a few left in all three styles. I tried to resist, but just did not have the strength! I gave in to temptation, and I am so glad I did! Of all my purchases at Expo this bag is the one I LOVE the most!
After Expo, and all our shopping we headed back to Port Orleans. We quickly dropped off all our goodies, and then headed to Epcot for the evening!
The best part of doing a runDisney race is that not only do you have the fun of running in Disney, but you get to visit the parks! We had a great time in Epcot. We soared on Soarin, had dinner in Mexico, and ended the night speeding along Test Track. We called it an early night since we were going to have to set our alarms for 4am for the Cinderella Royal 5k.
It was lights out by 10pm!
Next up-Review of Cinderella Royal 5k, Be Our Guest for lunch, and Quick Service dinner at Port Orleans Riverside.
